I propose that
marrying another academic, as I have done, is great. Here are the advantages:
- You don't have to meet all her obnoxious colleagues. They are your colleagues also, so you already hate them. That's a real time saver.
- Interacting with only academics lowers the chances that the spouse will find a more attractive mate. I admit, limited contact with normal human beings will probably keep my baby with me for an extra ten years.
- The spouse can dig up all the gossip about you from people who don't know your married. The downside for me is that she may spread the truth, which is probably worse than the gossip.
- You can make and share the voodoo dolls of your least favorite students. It relieves tension and is a great craft project for the whole family.
